    Yes...all is true.

Yet, seems like the same old theatre. The players change is all.

Thailand has a keen reputation [and history] of perpetuating public figures being forced into exile or voluntarily escaping - these audacious activities go way back, since the 1930s under civilian governments or military dictatorships - it remains the same.

This current affair has deeper roots and historic attachments, most which is unconsciously swept under the rug. The entrenched cause and effect relationship should be the basis of theoretical exploration...not the make believe surface entities in which we beseech.

Until the reality is understood, nothing will ever come to positive fruition.
Debates, discussions, arguments, punditry, and theories all become meshed in the same redundant rhetoric.

I think the Defense counsel should launch an action to have the NACC struck off the case, on pretty damn obvious grounds- and be tried in a (cough) real Thai court.

Will you be part of the welcoming committee? Seems Dorothy will be coming home in spite of what has been reported (gossip pages of thairath).

The National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) has denied reports that former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra had asked it to postpone her return from overseas from Sunday to Aug 31.

              snip

Surapong Tovichakchaikul, a former deputy prime minister, said Ms Yingluck currently was in a country "not far" from Thailand. It was expected she would arrive home in the early hours of Monday, he added.

I'm pretty certain this is not what 'They' wanted. Will be interested to see the editorial spin from the likes of Veera. Then again, she has to get here first... But if so, brave gal.

Yingluck will never see the inside of a jail cell.

It has nothing to do with whether or not she should be sent to jail. It's simply not the Thai thing to do.

Those that want her tried and found guilty will not put her in jail. If it came to that, an escape or a loophole will be fabricated to circumvent detention.

All in the same vein of Ford pardoning Nixon with the added factor of Yingluck being a poor, helpless, little girl.

BTW, is there any other country that regularly exiles its leaders who have fallen out of favor like Thailand does? It seems very petty.

The four-member team is headed by Mr Wutthipong Vibulwong, the deputy attorney general. The other members are Mr Pongniwat Yutthapanboriparn, the deputy attorney-general; former deputy attorney-general Thavorn Panichaphan; and Mrs Pranee Rattanachaiwong, special prosecutor.

The team will take 30 days to complete examination of the 4,000-page case file of the NACC which has decided to indict Ms Yingluck of gross negligence of duty in supervising the rice pledging scheme causing extensive damage to the state.

Attory-General Trakul Vinichaipark disclosed that Ms Yingluck had asked the Office of Attorney-General to question 50 more witnesses. However, he said that the team of prosecutors would have to examine the case file first to determine whether the case was strong enough or not and whether more evidences are to be needed.

Meanwhile former deputy prime minister and foreign minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul insisted that Ms Yingluck would return home on August 10 as scheduled.

I don't believe her father ever fled the country.

                        From Wiki:

"Yingluck's father, Lert, was born in Chiang Mai in 1919 and married Yindi Ramingwong (a daughter of Princess Jantip na Chiangmai, 2nd King Ruler of Chiangmai minor royal) who was also of Hakka Chinese descent. In 1968, Lert Shinawatra entered politics and became an MP for Chiang Mai and deputy leader of the now-defunct Liberal party. Lert Shinawatra quit politics in 1976. Lert Shinawatra opened a coffee shop, grew oranges and flowers in Chiang Mai's San Kamphaeng district, and opened two movie theatres, a gas station, and a car and motorcycle dealership."

Short of numerous leaders, a fabulous history of forced upon or voluntary exile has been witnessed for decades - academics/scholars, political ideologues, literati, noted public figures, etc.

Slipping in through the backdoor. Dorothy arrived at Don Muang; maybe trying to avoid the media, last night. Surprised no one here went to do a meet and greet with her.

                            Last words of encouragement?

^ Interesting shot- the three surviving TRT/PPP/PT prime ministers. All ousted by non-electoral mechanisms, as well as the dead one. Do you know where that was taken?
(& why hasn't Wongy even unfolded his napkin- on a diet?)

And maybe his napkin isn't unfolded because he might have just sat down (late getting there)? Your guess might be as good as mine.
