    $1700 per head?
    Bit excessive I think...

I realize that Chicago is United's hub 'n all and you being a loyal American and Chicagoan will turn the other cheek.

If you shop around Chi, I guarantee that one can find reasonably discounted airfare BKK-ORD.
There are other decent carriers out there.

    [United sucks]

I did this trip about eight years ago and United were superb.

Sold the airmiles on to Maimeetang a few months later.

Still have memories of ordering a pizza and being handed what amounted to a meal for a family of four.

The pizza is not really red. We are sitting under a big red umbrella that gave all the food a red tint in the photos!

Chicago is a fun place to go eating, really good Polish food.
                          Haven't been there for awhile now....35 years!..Geezers!...

I gotta cousin there I aught visit one of these days.
But the window for nice weather there is pretty narrow. July is best!

I went there once, obviously not in July and froze my ass off mind you I was in Bkk at the the time so flight from Thailand to the big windy was too much for a poor kiwi and I thought NZ was cold.

One of three cities I attended uni . . . It was nice enough, but too bloody cold and the demarcation between white working class, black, hispanic is palpable and dangerous to cross.
Luckily in Winnetka and Wilmette/Skokie all was peaceful and pretty . . . except for the K-Mart I worked at part-time.

Having arrived from Australia in May I believe, I went and bought a soft-top/sides Wrangler . . . awesome . . . until the cold set in and it was simply shite . . . made some money getting cars out of their snow-tombs

Kind of a love-hate relationship, really
