Mystery over sex toys dangled from power lines in Portland, Oregon




Hundreds of sex toys have been spotted hanging from power lines across Portland, Oregon.


The white and orange objects have appeared above major commercial streets around the city, but their origin remains a mystery.


Locals have been sharing images online, to try and figure out who might be responsible.


A spokesman for Portland General Electric said he did not believe the rubber products posed a fire hazard.





Portland resident Lucila Cejas Epple said that she first encountered the sex toys at a neighbourhood street fair over the weekend, according to

Reuters.









"You could spot them in several intersections and you could see all sorts of reactions to them," she said.






"Some would blush, others would laugh, and most would take photos."






The first sightings were reported late last month - but more have appeared in recent days.

NZer wins French Scrabble comp - without speaking any French






A 48-year-old New Zealander has taken out the French Scrabble prize despite not speaking word of French.


Bushy-bearded, bespectacled Nigel Richards is already a celebrity in the English version of Scrabble, winning its world championship in 2007 and again in 2011.


But this is the first time in history that a player who cannot speak the language has won the francophone world championship, which was contested by 74 players in Belgium on Monday.


Federation spokesman Antoine Rousseau said Richards had had just nine weeks to prepare for the competition.


He did so by memorising all of the possible words in the official Scrabble dictionary, from two to 10 letters.


In a three-hour final match, Richards won against Gabonese player Schelick Ilagou Rekawe with a word played on two 'triple-word score' boxes - the most coveted in the game.


The New Zealander, a resident of Malaysia, will participate in more Scrabble competitions in Belgium this week, but with the added challenge of playing a format where all players start with the same letters.


After his win on Monday, Richards received a warm round of applause - but then needed a translator to thank the audience.

Thai warship mistakenly rockets in direction of China

A warship registered in Taiwan by mistake released Hsiung-feng III missile in the direction of the continental part of China, reports Interfax referring to the local media.

The statement of the Thai Military Naval Forces says that the error was probably a result of a human factor.

According to the Admiral Mei Tszyashyu the internal investigation showed that the rocket was not fired in compliance with the procedures.

It is noted that the ship was in the base.

The incident is reported to the security agencies.

Beijing's response is not yet known.
