This is for Thai people... its not a dig or a bite at Thailand or its people, but please consider your thoughts. You are living overseas from your native land. Its not easy but you do your best to mix in with local society. You acknowledge all local customs, and follow the law and all aspects about it. In general you make a very positive contribution to your local community, you try at best to make friends and be very active in support of local projects. you spend your money within the community, you make a strong effort to help people less well off and even help those who are down and out ( street beggars). Maybe your skill of the local language is not as good as the locals but you try. By the vast majority of people in your moo baan you are accepted as part of the community, because you evolve yourself, all aspects of local life you respect and follow the rules, but above all you make a song supportive involvement in your community.
You are rewarded, by a position where you have little or no human rights, if there is a problem is because you are there or you are the problem, you have no say in what go's on locally. You can't buy a home, you can't voice your opinion to support your local community. You are always on the fringe or society, you are often seen as an outsider, and face racial discrimination. From time to time you face the fact of being scammed higher prices, because your seen to earn a higher salary. You face abuse spoken in a native tongue, but when you show you know what is being spoken, many close their eyes and ears in shame.....
This is the life of many a farang in Thailand... we want to help, we want to be part of making a better life for everyone, but even if we know so much more and can do so much good.... we are abused and ignored. Is this the action of a compassionate forward thinking country with a religion that encourages interaction and a sharing of ideas for the greater good? Or is it the action of a xenophobic nation scared that it does not know how to respect and treat its visitors?..... One route will lead to universal world acceptance and prosperity, the other will lead to isolation and a backward step to the dark ages.... do you really want to be the next North Korea?
