  • The Maimeetang Plantation

I never thought I would enjoy rural living, but I do. Here is the Maimeetang Plantation in Korat. I could almost live entirely off the land when it comes to fruit and herbs. Maybe I should get some chickens and cows?

My star fruit tree yields so much fruit, it falls to the ground in so many huge piles, and I give it away to friends and neighbors

It was built and ready to roll when I got it. No motorbikes buzzing by, no loud neighbors, just peace, quiet and lots of tasty treats outside my window.

The way it was designed, the windows have screens and open up so there is a nice flow of cool air going through the house at all times. It also has what I call the only basement in Thailand. There is a set of stairs that goes under the house. There is no door on it and you have to go outside to go down. The floor is a concrete pad and there is a huge water tank down there in one corner. I told the wife it is a place for monitor lizards and the mother in law when she visits.

On top of the carport is a huge balcony that I am considering putting a roof on and adding screening in it in on all sides so we can sit outside without the mosquitoes eating us alive. Does anyone have or seen a house in Thailand with screened in porch on it? I have never seen one ever. The Thais are missing out.

Very nice. Not for everyone but living rural in Thailand is great. You have the rustic tranquility of your plantation plus all the stuff you need in Korat. The longer you are there the more you will avoid returning to Bangers.
Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.

I love to walk outside and grab fruit off the tree for lunch. One of life's small pleasures.

Yes it is Tex. The only thing I do not like is the abundance of snakes, biting red ants and mosquitos. If it was not for those critters, it would be my very own Garden of Eden.

Dam now you have spoiled it. How many snakes make an abundance?

Yes I am scared. My brother in Law got bit this year in the INlaws house in Korat. They have fruit trees. My mrs just says yes we have snakes. Never told me that the first time we visited.

Their eggs sell for 80 baht a handful. Put Somchai to work.
