While I've got a bit of free time, I am planning on building a BBQ counter outside to compliment my Weber BBQ I bought the other week. In the garden, I have a tiled area approximately 4x2 meter where I will build the counter. What I want to know is the surface type to use as itís going to be exposed to the elements. Other than a Stainless steel trellis which will house the lighting, the surface will come in contact with the full force of the rain. I have checked a couple of places in the US for Ideas and the common material seems to be granite or concrete. I have granite in the kitchen but I though despite its smooth surface, that it was porous. Mine certainly has water stains here and there. Would concrete be better and would it need to be sealed and treated first? I'm not interested in tiles as I don't like the look.

Thanks
