Messi just scores a wonder hat-trick to drag Argentina into an automatic qualifying spot in their final qualifying game.

      South America:

Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina and Colombia are going to Russia automatically.

It's Peru who now face a play-off with New Zealand for the final spot.

      Chile have been eliminated.

      Brazil 3-0 Chile
      Ecuador 1-3 Argentina
      Paraguay 0-1 Venezuela
      Peru 1-1 Colombia
      Uruguay 4-2 Bolivia

Not long now, I'm thinking Italy or The Netherlands will fight it out to play against the Germans in the final

Takes me back to 2006 in Pattaya (never been back to that dump). The Thais were all cheering for Japan at the bars. Couldn't get my head around that

Not much for the English fans to sing about already.

No World Cup song for England squad in Russia

The FA has revealed it has not commissioned an official song for the England team as they attempt to win the World Cup in Russia.

Not even 3 Lions on a Shirt, again. Which is a great song.

Personally think that England can have a really good starting 11 if they sort their center-backs out into a steady partnership.

As soon as Aussie had qualified for the world cup I jumped onto Football Australia facebook page & started taking the piss out of them for the reason they don't deserve to be there & are going to be walloped (like last time). Well that didn't go down too well 555 however there was a quiet resignation I was right

                World cup 2014 Australia
                Chile 3 Australia 1
                Netherlands 3 Australia 2
                Spain 3 Australia 0

Peru captain Paolo Guerrero banned from World Cup for doping

Peru captain Paolo Guerrero has been suspended from this summer's World Cup because of a positive doping test.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport has upheld an appeal by the World Anti-Doping Agency to extend Guerrero's six-month FIFA ban, which expired this month.

CAS says Guerrero will be banned for 14 months which lasts until January.

The 34-year-old was set to captain Peru at its first World Cup appearance since 1982.

Guerrero tested positive for benzoylecgonine, a metabolite of cocaine, at a World Cup qualifying game against Argentina in October.

His lawyers argued the stimulant had not been performance enhancing, and was accidentally consumed in contaminated tea.
