  • Good place for camera accessories anyone?

I am getting into a bit more flash photography and was wandering if anyone knew of a decent place for new and second-hand equipment in BKK or NE areas (Udon, Sakon, Nong Khai, Nakom etc).

I want some cheap flashes that I can set off optically and a few cheap stands and backgrounds to help do a few portraits and group shots.

If anyone knows of places that I can buy some cheap flashes and tranceivers that allow i-TTL then so much the better. (eg Yongnuo equipment)

    Thanks in advance...

Look on Craigslist and Thai Ebay. I also have seen a lot of second hand cameras and equipment at stalls at the large night markets.

Thanks for the tips. I'm a little old-fashioned and prefer to browse rather than grab things from e-bay. I never really know what I want until I've seen it and had a feel for what it can do. I like Thailand for the way assistants do actually assist and try to help...

...brings me to a recent example of what I call a "good shop". I went in with an idea of what I wanted and the assistant unpacked the goods and attached them to the same model I had. I could see what it could and couldn't do and selected the items I really needed rather than the ones pushed by the internet.

Head over to Pontip Plaza. They should have anything and everything that you want.

Future also has some camera stores.

I was thinking of going to Zeer in Rangsit when I'm in bkk. There were a couple of places in Udon but I can't remember how well stocked they were. I'll post some info after I've checked a few places out.

Laptop battery went u/s on me so I ended up going to Pontip. I didn't get touts pestering me but some very helpful guys and girls that showed me to the right store for the battery (reasonable price). Plenty of shops selling Yongnuo equipment and they allow a little haggling for a decent price...

Wife went ballistic at the taxi drivers, many of whom are refusing to use the meter. They are moaning at the lack of tourists and being squeezed by the new rulers. Took four attempts before we got one who would use the meter without question.

Went to Future today, using a combination of the MRT and No11 bus. Not a bad place and had the laptop batteries as well as some good equipment. On the camera side of things, the shops tended to have the latest and greatest rather than old stock that I found in Pantip.

Anyway, I went into a couple of stores that had what I was after (with my camera) and we tried several combinations of equipment before selecting what I wanted. I could have got the same thing for a couple of hundred Baht less yesterday but the service wasn't quite the same. I just wasn't sure if it would work yesterday and didn't bring my flash with me. Today they took the same model off the shelf to check the different ideas and see which was better for me.

                Thanks for the suggestion.

I would try mom and pop shops, 2nd hand shops, out door markets and even pawn shops.

Cam equipment in Thailand is about 30% above the costs back in the West. So order off the internet and have it sent to a friend or family member back home and have them forward it on to you.
