The Traveling Wilburys were quite good for a "super-group." To me, Roy Orbison really made them exceptional.

The original Traveling Wilburys: Orbison, Lynne, Dylan, Harrison, Petty

The group originally consisted of Roy Orbison, Jeff Lynne, Bob Dylan, George Harrison and Tom Petty. And then, in the wink of an eye, there were two. It does sort of feel like the End of the Line."

God, the panic within the Dems, MSM, and left must be horrifying...realizing that Joe is really the best they've got.

"It was 1976 when the band started, and Mike (Campbell) and Ben (Tench) and I had been knocking around since 1970. There weren't a lot of rock stars in their 50s or 60s -- or 70s -- then. I don't think there were that many even in their 40s. It wasn't that kind of job. You didn't look at it as a job you'd do your whole life. I remember thinking at one point, Boy, if this goes on for five years, that would be quite a run. Then when we hit five years, I remember thinking, Man, if this goes on 10 years it'd be incredible." (2005)

"Back then it was almost like admitting that you were never going to make any money and realizing you probably were not going to have a professional life but saying, 'This is what I love, so I'll do this.'" (1991)

            - Tom Petty (a couple of quotes)

What a legend. Did you like him better with the Heart Breakers or the Traveling Wilburys. He was also a band member of the Epics and Mudcrunch, although neither groups had any main street music success. Of course, a few members of Mudcrutch stayed with it and they evolved into the the Heart Breakers.

When I first "realized" there even were the Wilburys I recall singing the songs with my wife at the time on our way to play ball in our mixed softball league...

And Roy Orbison was the voice...Are you kidding me!...I couldn't name any of the others at the time...Never heard of Jeff Lynne...But I remember ELO (Electric Light Orchestra)...

It was usually that way with me in the old days...I would know the bands, and maybe the lead singer, but not all the individuals in the band (unless they were as huge as the Beatles)...Until my friends would rap on about so-and-so who was lead guitar and used to play with such-and-such...Etcetera...

Hell, I never even realized George Harrison was a Wilbury for a long, long, time...And he was a founding member...For shame...Heh...

And then there was the super-group, country style, to confuse a feller even more...The Highwaymen, that's it...Kris Kristofferson, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, and Waylon Jennings...(1985-1995)...And the Wilburys' first album was recorded in 1988...

At times in my life I've been intensely into music...All genres...And, at other times, there's been nothing but my own voice "on the chain-gang"...

But, back to Petty...1989...Who could forget singing "But I'll stand my ground...And I won't back down"...

Even the wimpy wee guys looked kinda tough blurting that out in the bars...555...

Elvis once said that Roy Orbison had the best voice ever...And I met an old guy from New York who thought it was a shame that Elvis himself did not sing opera and wasted his life singing the shit he sang!...Such a waste, he said...
