Seems to me that this forum can't really afford to cut off it's nose to spite it's face.

What? Perhaps, 5-6 regular posters and maybe less than a handful that browse around for 15 minutes, possibly contributing, every couple of months.
And many have dropped off, or kicked to the curb, reflected by the abandoned ghost town activity.

In this case - petty and repressed restrictions and the ever looming ban threat are a bit overboard, dontcha think?

Contrary to popular belief, forums do work, as long as they provide free niche information that saves people time money and stress, that they would otherwise have to pay for, or have to gain access a network of experienced people to get.
Where they fail is where they forget that mission, and focus on lowest common denominator trolling, and trolling that is repetitive and only some of it was witty the first time. Whilst losing members and not gaining any new ones.

If done correctly by a team of people with the right attitute and aptitude, you can have a forum better than TD/TV

So, you don't care for the modding skills then? One wonders how your "right attitude" might improve TD/TV. Easy enough to complain, after all, but much more difficult to execute a fantasy forum where all posters will be happy to contribute.
