I've lived in Korat for 18 years. I cycle out for coffee five or six days a week. I spread my custom among the many venues that are within pedaling distance of my home. Before Covid most of these places were busy if not crowded. Of course, Covid changed everything and now every place I visit for my morning caffeine hit is grimly quiet. I'm often the only customer at places that were formerly lively enough for some decent people-watching. These are not out-of-the-way locals-only spots but well-known once popular establishments like Class Cafe (two outlets on Mittraphap Hwy), Amazon (a short hike from the Sima Thani hotel), and Cafe Ama (just off Mittraphap and a favorite visitors from Bangkok).
So, where is everyone? Are people just not doing coffee anymore, or just not spending money on sweetened/caffeinated beverages?
