Premier reinforces anti-corruption drive
Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has called for an end to the patronage system and urged the public to come forward with information on corruption.
He made the remark while presiding over the opening ceremony of International Anti-Corruption Day today (December 9) at Impact Muangthong Thani exhibition centre.
Prayut said all parties should join forces to stamp out corruption, which has dented the country's development for a long time.
He added that the government had made it a priority to rid corruption in state agencies.
Phase 3 of the strategy for prevention and supression of the corruption (2017-2021) is focused on an integrated approach in fighting corruption, He said.: https://www.nationthailand.com/news/...ernal_referralKeep your friends close and your enemies closer

PM promotes use of medicinal cannabis at Unesco event
Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha made a case for the use of medicinal cannabis while attending a roadshow event of the Unesco Creative Cities Network on Wednesday (December 11).
The event focused on the importance of both traditional locations and smart cities.
Then, Sukhum Karnchanapimai, permanent secretary at the Public Health Ministry, promoted medical marijuana use at the event.
The prime minister said substances from cannabis needed to be handled carefully and that medical use was aimed at helping people with low income access affordable medicines. He, however, warned that without supervision by medical professionals, it could be harmful.
Prayut later launched the website www.medcannabis.go.th , which provides information about medical marijuana use to the public.
He also set an example by inhaling cannabis oil and applying it on the back of his ear and said that he was going to buy the oil and try it later.: https://www.nationthailand.com/news/...ernal_referralhttp://www.medcannabis.go.th/clinic - http://www.medcannabis.go.th/Keep your friends close and your enemies closer

Police arrested paroled serial killer Somkid Phumphuang on a Surin-Bangkok train at Pak Chong station on Wednesday morning, for the murder of a woman in Khon Kaen province.
Police found Somkid, 55, asleep and sitting alone next to a window about 10.35am. He was wearing a cap, his lower faced covered by a mask, and had covered himself with a jacket.
According to Thai media reports he was identified and reported to police by two students, who noticed a mark on his forehead and compared it with police photos using their phones.
Police said Somkid bought a ticket at Buri Ram train station. He did not resist arrest. Police confirmed they received a call and a video clip of Somkid from a train passenger.
The suspect was taken to the Provincial Police Region 3 office in Nong Sarai district for interrogation.
Somkid, dubbed Jack the Ripper of Thailand, is suspected of murdering Ratsami Mulichan, 51, at her house in Ban Mai Chai Mongkol village in Kranuan district of Khon Kaen on Sunday. The dead woman's son said had earlier told him her new lover was a lawyer and they got to know each other via Facebook.
Police believe Ratsami, a divorcee, was Somkid's sixth victim. He was sentenced to life imprisonment for murdering five women in 2005. They were singers and masseuses. He was arrested in the same year.
The Appeal Court in August 2012 upheld the Criminal Court's sentence of life imprisonment, commuted from the death penalty because he confessed.
Somkid was paroled and let free on May 17 this year. The Corrections Department said he was a "model prisoner".
Ratsami reportedly worked as a hotel maid. She let him move in to live with her on Dec 2, telling her son the man would buy her a car.
Ratsami died of suffocation. Her body was wrapped with a blanket, naked from the waist down. Her wrists and ankles had been tied. An electric wire was fastened around her neck, held with transparent adhesive tape.: https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand...iller-arrested

Prayut, coalition partners sing out their message
Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha and leaders of the two main coalition parties saw no need to talk much on Wednesday, turning instead to song to showcase the government's solidarity
Gen Prayut, Anutin Charnveerakul and Jurin Laksanawisit were the main focus of a New Year luncheon party with the Government House press corps, at a time when the ties between the Palang Pracharath (PPRP), Bhumjaithai and Democrat parties are in question.
Mr Anutin and Mr Jurin sang Reward for a Dreamer, of late national artist Jaran Manopet, and said they dedicated this to the prime minister. The two pointed to Gen Prayut when they sang the line "as long as you do not walk away from me".
The three also sang Holding hands together, one of the signature songs of Thongchai "Bird" McIntyre.
"We are not only holding hands. We are working together in order to successfully achieve our goals," Gen Prayut said.
Bhumjaithai won 51 seats and the Democrat 53 seats in the March general election. The two form a key part of the 254-seat coalition government led by PPRP.
The three-way tie-up looked questionable when Bhumjaithai backed a ban on farm chemicals, but the Democrat wanted to keep them in use.
PPRP leaders also reportedly questioned the Democrats after four Democrat MPs voted on Dec 4 to support the setting up of a House committee to assess the impact of the National Council for Peace and Order's Section 44 diktats, despite strong opposition to the move from the PPRP.
Mr Anutin on Wednesday dismissed reports of any split in the coalition, declaring that all the rumours came from outsiders. "The Bhumjaithai Party is happy working as part of the government," he said.: https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand...ssage#cxrecs_s - https://twitter.com/WassanaNanuam/st...90162918100992Keep your friends close and your enemies closer
