PM Tells Police To Hasten Investigation of Koh Tao Murder
    16 September 2014

The pair was found dead yesterday with "gruesome" wounds to the head on the popular island of Koh Tao, a well-known destination for foreign tourists and divers.

"I have been following this matter very closely," Gen. Prayuth told reporters as he arrived at Government House this morning. "We also have to look into the behaviour of the other side."

He continued, "This case should not have happened in Thailand at all. I think it will affect foreign opinion of our country. I have urged all relevant authorities [to speed up the investigation]."

Thai authorities have come under increasing pressure to apprehend a suspect and uncover a motive behind the grisly murder. Police have been conducting door-to-door searches on the island but are yet to name any official suspects.

Gen. Pravit Wongsuwan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, said he instructed police to urgently solve the case, as it greatly affects the Kingdom's tourism industry.

He also said police have been sealing off ferry piers on Koh Tao to prevent potential suspects from fleeing the island, although reports from the region indicate that the ferries are running normally.

Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul, Minister of Tourism and Sports, refused to comment on the murder.

"I will brief you later," she said as she arrived for a Cabinet meeting at Government House.

This is a very sad case but such events are not confined to Thailand or anywhere else (before a certain someone starts ranting). I think many cases may well be missing a few details as I suspect some tourists put themselves in danger unknowingly since any time I have watched programs centred around airports it is quite obvious people don't read in advance the possible dangers they could face. Although maybe I am more wary than most having been and still potentially a lone traveler?

Fcuk off. What should they do when farangs decide to commit crimes in Thailand ? Sex and being naked on a public beach is illegal. It left them vulnerable. They took the risk and lost

Why were these dolts naked in the first place ?

You are the apologist dolt. It's a beach, and it's likely she was only in a bikini i.e. 90% naked beforehand as is normal on a beach. It doesn't invite murder

So far I haven't read anything that says they were naked, only semi-naked, which could mean a number of things.

Thailand rules out Myanmar suspects in murder of 2 British tourists

                        Which is it???

BANGKOK (AFP) - The Thai police on Tuesday ruled out three Myanmar workers in connection with the murder of two young British tourists, as Thailand's military ruler appeared to call into question the "behaviour" of the victims themselves.

The bodies of Mr David Miller, 24, and Ms Hannah Witheridge, 23, arrived in Bangkok late on Tuesday for forensic examination.

They were found naked and beaten to death early Monday near a beachside bungalow on the island, a diving hot-spot near Koh Phangan in the Gulf of Thailand. A bloodied hoe was discovered 35m from the murder scene.

Three male Myanmar migrant workers were held for questioning but ruled out of the probe on Tuesday afternoon, southern regional police commander Panya Maman told AFP. "They were very far from the scene... it was probably not them," he said, adding DNA samples had been collected from the men. He did not give details of any further leads as the manhunt on the small, normally tranquil island stretched into a second day without an arres

                          Seems it may have been other westerners;

Police investigating the murders of two British tourists in Thailand have said two UK men are now "possible suspects".
Hannah Witheridge, 23, and David Miller, 24, were found dead on a beach on the island of Koh Tao on Monday.
Two British men who spent time with the victims in the days before they died are now in "police care" in Thailand's capital, Bangkok.
Police said they had not been formally detained or arrested but might face questioning.
