It's abnormal but he's not alone. When back in the west most people thought it was cool that someone could work part time and part year, spending the cold half of each year traveling the world. But some bitter miseries, usually those with the ball and chain of an expensive family to breadwin for, would sneer about it.

the typical day in the life of a young retiree.

Up around 6:10 am with the sunrise seven days per week. No need for weekend lie-ins when life is a permanent weekend.

7am tennis hiking sea swimming or gym depending on the day and weather.

The rest of the day is exploring by motorbike, restaurants, beaches, forested mountains, shopping, massages, or relaxing in the villa or beside the pool. Plus some online bits and pieces I'm doing at my own pace.

What's funny is that although I have expensive dependants, my ability to drag my way through days years and decades of shit jobs is tied to abusing forum members like Tinkles and a legion of others, across multiple forums. I'm completely dependant on them!

Meanwhile, I've never forgiven the member who caused my crippling loss of face by exposing my lies and delusions about being a headhunted expat on an overseas posting a career decade ahead of my peers back in NZ, when my reality is decades of tedious rut, miserable disillusioned local hire jobs with shit employers and no way out. What's equally as sad and pathetic if not actually even moreso is NZ has now refused to give flotsam and jetsam like me who fled the place a pension.

I can tell you now for instance that in my experience it's not that hard to find a job in Hong Kong at all. I've been offered two in the last two years and that's without even looking.

Yes but it's a matter of career progression and experience. Here I've had (and am going to have) positions and responsibilities in my 30's that I couldn't have expected to have had back in NZ until my 40's.

Nothing intrinsic to Thailand no. It's just that working for a Co. in an overseas posting tends to bring quicker advancement. Couldn't tell you why that is exactly though but I do know the experience is looked upon favourably.
