  • Am I right in thinking Tex's wife ran off with a Brit leaving him penniless, drink sodden and rotting away in some ghastly concrete bothy in Nakhon Nowhere?

His comments do suggest this to be the case.

Ah well, he isn't the first septic to crash and burn and I daresay he won't be the last. But they do seem to descend into such incoherence and vile idiocy whilst those little synapses fizzle away. Perhaps it's Parkinsons?

    So, how's it going Scampy?

Well using that logic, you must have been raked over the coals by some Thai bird. Possibly with a penis.

        • Police chief reconfirms Myanmar migrant workers are real suspects
          October 7, 2014

The national police chief Pol Gen Somyos Poompanmuang held a press conference this afternoon to reconfirm that the two Myanmar migrant workers arrested for allegedly killing two British tourists on Koh Tao in mid-September are real suspects and not scapegoats as widely speculated.

Pol Gen Somyos was accompanied by one of his deputies, Pol Gen Chakthip Chaichinda and Pol Lt-Gen Manoo Mekmok, commissioner of Office of Forensic Science at the press
conference held at the National Police Office amidst an army of Thai and foreign reporters.

Pol Gen Somyos said that the arrest of the two suspects namely Win and So Lin, both 21, was attributable to five reasons: an eyewitness, a Myanmar migrant worker who implicated them; their DNA samples match with the DNA found in the body of one of the tourists; video footage showing the two suspects; a smartphone of one of the victims found in the possession of the suspects; and the confession of the suspects at the presence of their lawyers.

The police chief said the police were confident that they had substantial evidences to convince the court to convict the two suspects.

He shrugged off widespread criticism in the social media that the two Myanmar migrant workers might be scapegoats as pure fantasy and said that the police were not shaken by such ridiculous criticism.

Koh Tao Murders: Myanmar workers say colleagues tortured before confessing

PHUKET: Three Myanmar workers based on Koh Tao off the Surat Thani coast have accused police of torturing them to try to extract information about the murder of two British citizens last month, a source said yesterday.

The three men were from a group of six Myanmar workers. The three were released by police but two colleagues were arrested and eventually charged with the murders, while the sixth man is believed to have agreed to give |evidence against the two who have been charged.

The three men who were released have alleged that Thai police poured hot water on them. They later met with a Myanmar labour leader who took photos of burn wounds on their bodies and sent them to the Myanmar embassy.

The embassy reportedly said later that it was ready to assist their |colleagues who have been charged.

The source also quoted the three who were released as citing a policeman's words while they were detained that "this issue will snowball if the Myanmar embassy has intervened into the detention and [alleged] torture".

Meanwhile, an unnamed Myanmar worker said most migrant workers wanted to stay working on Koh Tao despite their "dread" of Thai police, as they were sure of their innocence based on verification of DNA collected from the female victim's body would certainly not match theirs.

"But when they are unable to catch the real culprits, the Thai police turned to target Myanmar workers," the source said.

An unnamed business owner also commented that the arrest of the three men, one of whom was excused and spared for coming court testimony against the first two, was "suspiciously hurried", possibly to benefit themselves in connection with the annual Royal Thai Police reshuffle, or please the junta government.

                    • Burmese migrants RECANT murder confession of British tourists

                      8 October 2014

The two Burmese migrants accused murdering two British holidaymakers in Koh Tao have recanted their confessions, claiming they made under duress.

A lawyer from the Burmese embassy said Zaw Lin and Win Zaw Htun, who are jointly accused of bludgeoning Hannah Witheridge, 23, and David Miller, 24, to death, told him they were tortured into confessing.

                        • The British embassy stayed away and the Myanmar embassy contradicted claims they were pleased with the Koh Tao murder investigation, as police held a major media event to try to refute torture charges and convince the public that two arrested Myanmar workers (inset) are killers, not scapegoats.

Govt insists missions OK with probe

                          8/10/2014

The government has insisted both the British and Myanmar embassies in Thailand "have no problems" with the Thai police's handling of the Sept 15 murders of two British tourists on Koh Tao even as police face claims the Myanmar suspects were tortured.

The most-photographed pair in Thailand Tuesday were the two Myanmar murder suspects Zaw Rim and Win, both 21, after their court appearance in Surat Thani.

Foreign Minister Tanasak Patimapragorn said he was confident the case would not lead to any disputes between Thailand and Myanmar because he had spoken with the embassy and it did not have any problems with the investigation results.

His remarks came after the police held a press conference Tuesday to insist on the accuracy of the investigation which had resulted in charges against two Myanmar men.

The bodies of Hannah Witheridge, 23, and David Miller, 24, were found on a beach of the southern island of Koh Tao in Surat Thani province on Sept 15.

Police pursued the case for more than two weeks before they detained three Myanmar migrant workers, two of whom were charged over the murders while the other was treated as an eyewitness.

National police chief Somyot Pumpanmuang defended the arrest of the two Myanmar men for the murders even though the suspects claimed they were tortured by police while in custody.

"I must stress that all the officials involved in this case have done a good job," Pol Gen Somyot said.

He pointed to the five reasons why the police charged the suspects.

These were the accounts of the murders and rape provided by a Myanmar friend of the two suspects who was being treated as an eyewitness to the crime; the positive DNA matches between the samples taken from the two Myanmar suspects and those retrieved from Witheridge's body; the images of the suspects captured by closed-circuit security cameras; the mobile phone belonging to Miller which police retrieved from the suspects' living quarters; and the suspects' own alleged confessions to the murders and rape.

However, many inside and outside Thailand beg to differ.

"It seems to us like this case is a set-up and not based on hard facts," Aung Myo Thant, a lawyer appointed by the Myanmar embassy to defend 21-year-old suspects Zaw Rim and Win, told the Democratic Voice of Burma (DVB), an independent Myanmar news website based in Norway.

In the interview with the DVB, which provided the suspects' full names which Thai police have yet to divulge, Aung Myo Thant said there were "inconsistencies with both the forensic report and evidence provided in the case".

Contradicting earlier reports that Myanmar embassy officials were satisfied with explanations provided by Thai authorities over the arrest of their nationals, Htun Aye, the embassy's second secretary, told the Bangkok Post Tuesday it was too early to say whether his team was satisfied with all the information they were given by authorities.

Pol Maj Gen Suwat Jaengyodsuk, acting deputy chief of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, said the reason why no DNA from the two suspects was found on either the hoe the police believed the suspects used to murder the victims or a used condom found near the crime scene was because the DNA on both items was probably flushed out by sea water or there was some other form of contamination.

An informed source said Pol Maj Gen Suwat, who headed the Koh Tao murder investigation, went to the Army Club on Vibhavadi Rangsit Road to attend a meeting on the preparation for the official visit of Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha to Myanmar tomorrow and Friday.

Gen Prayut had emphasised that an English-language brief with details about the police investigation of the murders would be ready before his visit, in the event his Myanmar counterpart inquired about it during their meeting, said the same source.

The premier, however, did not want it to be stated in the brief that the suspects were Myanmar citizens and they should instead be described as "alien workers", according to the same source.

Public prosecutors have decided to set up a committee to examine the case following the charges against the two suspects of premeditated murder, rape, physical assault and theft.

"The prosecutors do not feel pressured by speculation that the suspects are actually scapegoats because the prosecutors will base their decisions on the police investigation report which will include witness accounts and items of evidence," said Santhanee Disayabutr, deputy spokesperson of the Office of the Attorney-General.

This case will just renforce the attraction to the anti nanny state.

Despite how crazy this case gets , the plane loads of tourists will keep arriving. And if they don't , it won't be because of issues like this

if these issues were the end of Thai tourism then why didn't it end with the 2 canadian girl deaths ? Or the crazy man from Karabi

You are right Socal that many will continue to Travel to Thailand. Just like they ignore the carnage on Thai roads. But what is happening is that the type of tourist will change. Less top end, and families. Experts on drugs like yourself will continue to extort the value of the non "nanny state" and continue to have a fling. Murders are awful, but the way the Thai's handled it has done far more damage internationally. Each incidence of this "Thainess" builds and eventually other options seem more favourable.
