I retired in 2004 at the age of 44 after spending some time working in the middle east and didn't really need to earn any more savings.

A mate in Aus sent me an email saying "I know you are not doing much, do you want a 6 month contract?"

So I went back to work for no reason other than just "something to do".

That contract extended for 2 years, then I was offered a contract in Singapore for 12 months.

2008 GFC hit.... which sure put a dent in my savings investments.

I would probably still be OK, but that contract extended for 8 years until 2105 when they decided I should halve my contract rate and work out of Manila, instead of Singapore.

I moved here and so far enjoy my life..

I'll probably retire again next year if Trump doesn't **** up my retirement investments between now and then...

Yeah it's always tempting to do bits and pieces on your own terms that you can walk away from whenever you want.

Feel sorry for those that trot off to work day after day, decade after decade because they have to.
