Oh, you are allowed to like Pattaya- many people do. You are just not meant to admit that you like Pattaya.

OK sabang, got to admit that the weather is a tad cooler (obviously by it's location to the Gulf) than Issan but the thing is, Pattaya attracts the scam artists like Rude Noise (Drew Noyse). Remember him? Got busted for attempting to swindle that OZ Medical Equipment outfit.

The Police lineup had him and one of his old ladies - a Ms.Wanrappa (a rather fetching lass) featured on the front page of the local newspaper.

Yeh for sure- many more than Drew Noyes too. It's a cosmopolitan city. That means rich/ poor; monger/ non; working/ not; honest/ dishonest; good bloke/ scumbag etc etc. Like any other city. Of course, expat places tend to attract expat conmen- HH & Phuket no different, or Bkk for boiler room scum.

Ironically (but not surprisingly) the best site by far to catch up with Skullduggery in Thailand (farang & Thai) is Andrew Drummond- and it is banned in Thailand!

^^ Why so booner? Every city has a variety of folk. Because numbers. Pattaya is exceptionally multicultural for it's size- even most of the locals are not from Chonburi. To many of us, that is part of it's charm. Doesn't mean everyone is good Mr Rogers though, obviously. Is everyone in Isaan?

Night Owl was Bernard Trink who wrote for a tabloid called the Bangkok World, which printed in red ink, back in the early eighties. His quality weekly column included such gems as "Go-go dancer of the week". He later moved to the Bangkok Post, though I believe he then toned things down a bit.

CORONAVIRUS: ALL HOTELS IN PATTAYA ORDERED TO CLOSE

All hotels in Pattaya and elsewhere throughout Chonburi province in eastern Thailand have been ordered to temporarily close in a sustained effort to contain the COVID-19 pandemic.

Chonburi Provincial Governor Phakharathorn Thianchai confirmed on Friday that he has imposed the latest measure against the COVID-19 spread by temporarily shutting down all hotels in Pattaya and Chonburi until further notice.

Any hotels where some guests might currently stay are obliged to notify respective chief district officers within three days, according to the provincial governor.

Meanwhile, all hotel employees are prohibited from leaving Pattaya or Chonburi where entry and exit of other people, especially including foreign visitors, are yet to undergo a stepped-up screening process, Phakharathorn said.

Pattaya mayor to impose stricter lockdown

Pattaya will enforce a ramped-up coronavirus lockdown tomorrow with more screening checkpoints being set up.

Pattaya mayor Sonthaya Khunpluem said the number of checkpoints has been increased from five to eight along Sukhumvit Road leading to the city to screen vehicles and people entering.

Non-residents or people not working in Pattaya will not be allowed entry to the city until the situation returns to normal.

Most of those infected in Pattaya are foreigners and those who work closely with foreigners, Mr Sonthaya claimed.

Checkpoints have been spread across the town in order to prevent traffic congestion caused by motorists entering Pattaya via Sukhumvit Road.

People who are not residents but have to work in Pattaya can obtain passes permitting them to enter and leave the city at the Pattaya provincial hall or apply for one at all 7-11 stores in the city, or download one at https://www.pattaya.go.th/permission-certificate/.

People who hold house registrations in Banglamung district must also show their ID cards, along with the passes when going through the checkpoints, while those who live outside the Banglamung area but have to travel to work in Pattaya must also have letters signed by their employers.

The latter must also show letters signed by their landlords, community leaders, or community committee members.
